Hi, my name is Caleb Zwanzig. I am an artist currently working in the Denver area. I have my Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Azusa Pacific University, and I hope to attend graduate school in the next few years.

I gain most of my inspiration from pouring over old maps, as well as reading biographies and other historical accounts about the exploration of the American West by European settlers. My hope is for us to learn something about who we are by where we've been and where we are going. I hope you enjoy the work. Thank you.

Statement:  With regards to my topographic surveys, I decide where to place my tracings based on my reactions to the land. When we view a place, our brains automatically make these assessments. We see differing heights in mountain ranges as well as variation in texture and color in the layers of earth. I am breaking these down to show what our minds often perceive. If we notice a change in the landscape, then we will block out any other aspects that obstruct our observation. We create an abstraction out of what is visible into what our minds wish to see.
